Redlands' Best

Each year, there are many annual and seasonal events that take place in Redlands that draw visitors (and participants) from throughout the region and beyond.  Some of these annual events are so popular that visitors are encouraged to book hotel and dining reservations well in advance in addition to purchasing any individual event tickets.  Here are a few annual and seasonal events that offer something for everyone.

The Hangar 24 AirFest & Anniversary Celebration takes place each year at the Redlands Municipal Airport.  The event features professional aerial performances, world-class live music, a huge variety of food from the best local food trucks, a family-friendly kid’s zone and a wide selection of Hangar 24 Craft Brewery beers.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
This annual Christmas Tree Lighting event takes place in early December at the beautiful Kimberly Crest House and Gardens.  Local choirs perform Christmas carols, cider and ginger cookies are served and there are photo opportunities with Santa. The interior of the home is decorated for the holidays, and immediately following the Tree Lighting ceremony visitors can take tours of the first floor of the home.

Feast of Lights
The University of Redlands annual Feast of Lights is an inspired service of worship that has served as an introduction to the Christmas season to students, faculty, friends, residents and visitors for more than 65 years.  This exquisite tapestry of scripture, poetry, music and drama was first presented in 1948 and continues to be an annual community tradition.

Red Dirt Art Festival
The Red Dirt Art Festival has been connecting local artists with the Redlands community through outdoor events since 2005. Held each spring and autumn, more than 30 artists gather and share their unique artwork that spans across virtually all mediums.  A wide array of attractive art is available for purchase including many types of jewelry, paintings, clothing, sculpture, photography, pottery and mixed media.

Redlands Bicycle Classic
The Redlands Bicycle Classic is the longest continuous running stage race in American bike racing. From humble beginnings on a Memorial Day weekend in 1985 hosting future stars for the Olympics, Tour de France, and world championships, the Redlands Bicycle Classic has earned its position in history "Where Legends Are Born".

Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival
For more than 90 years, the Redlands Community Music Association has served the Inland Empire region by providing professional quality music and performing arts free of an admission charge.  Since its inception, an estimated eight million people have attended an evening of entertainment under the stars at the Redlands Bowl.  The Summer Music Festival (June through August) features a variety of productions including symphonies, dance programs, opera, folk music and Broadway musicals.

Redlands Footlighters Live Theater
The Redlands Footlighters have provided professional-quality community theater productions in a local, intimate venue since 1980 (the group was formed in 1945).  Community performers showcase a number of entertaining productions including comedies, classics & other community theater performances.  The theater season typically runs from August through June.

Redlands Shakespeare Festival
This annual, free festival occurs each May at the Redlands Bowl outdoor amphitheater in Smiley Park and features full-scale repertory performances, a University Lecture Series, an Educational Workshop Series, Director’s Insight Series and other special events.  Recognized throughout Southern California and beyond, organizers are dedicated to making Shakespearean works and performances accessible to everyone.

Redlands Symphony
Founded in 1950, the Redlands Symphony has become a vital part of Redlands’ cultural fabric, bringing a high level of artistic excellence to the stage of the University of Redlands Memorial Chapel.  Seasonal performances typically run November through April featuring a wide variety of classical music that includes guest performers, musicians and conductors.

Redlands Theater Festival
For more than 40 years, the Redlands Theater Festival has earned a reputation for excellence in performance, entertainment and location. The season begins the second week of July and continues through the third week of August.  Productions in this open-air environment typically include a major Broadway musical, an Off-Broadway musical, a contemporary drama, a recent Broadway release and a period piece.

Run Through Redlands
Every year, runners, walkers and riders (wheelchair) take part in these 5K, 10K and Half-Marathon competitions.  The courses wind through beautiful Redlands’ tree-lined streets, past historic homes with breathtaking views of the San Bernardino Mountains. Additional event activities typically include a Kid’s Dash, Runner’s Expo and refreshments.
