Keeping our schools safe is one of the highest priorities of the Redlands Police Department. We have created this webpage to keep parents and students informed of the current investigation status of rumored threats to our schools.

If you are concerned about a rumored threat to a school in Redlands, please review the list below to see the status of its investigation. If you have a tip about a threat that is not listed in the chart below, please call our dispatch center at 909-798-7681 ext. 1.

The Redlands Police Department and the Redlands Unified School District will post information as soon as we are able to verify it and determine that publication of the information will not endanger the health and safety of the District’s students or staff, the neighboring community, or public safety personnel.

03/12/2024 Smiley Elementary School

A 9-year-old student told a group of students that he had a gun in his backpack and would shoot them.

The student’s backpack was searched, and no guns were found. Police contacted the student’s father and confirmed there were no guns in the home and he had no access to guns. The threat was determined not to be credible. The school will handle the administrative discipline process.

03/12/2024 Lugonia Elementary School

An 8-year-old student told his teacher he was going to get a gun and shoot her.

Police contacted the parents and the child and confirmed that student has no access to guns. The threat was determined not to be credible. The child was counseled, and the school will handle the administrative discipline process.

03/05/2024 Redlands High School

Redlands High School administrators and Redlands Police became aware of a vague threat to high schools in San Bernardino county traveling through social media late Monday night.  Similarly vague threats have been posted on social media in the past.  

RPD has determined the threat to be non-credible. In an abundance of caution, RHS administrators notified parents and RPD increased patrols around Redlands High School on Tuesday.  

03/01/2024 Moore Middle School School administration was made aware of a student who took one of the school radios and yelled “active shooter”, which was heard across the radios on campus. School personnel and safety team identified, isolated, and searched the student. 

It was determined through an investigation that there was no credible threat, and there is no danger to Moore Middle students or staff. The safety team provided guidance and support to complete all necessary protocols. The student was counseled, and the school is handling the discipline administratively.

03/01/2024 Clement Middle School Several students reported seeing a social media post threatening a shooting on a school campus. After reviewing the post, police determined it was not related to Clement or any RUSD campus.
02/28/2024 Cope Middle School

Campus administrators contacted RPD to report a sixth-grade student who was overheard making a threat against the school.

The student denied making the statements. Officers conducted a consent search of his residence and determined he does not have access to firearms. The threat was determined not to be credible. The school is conducting their own investigation and will handle any discipline administratively.

02/28/2024 Moore Middle School

Campus administrators contacted RPD to report a 12-year-old student was found with a replica firearm on campus.

After investigation, it was determined no crime was committed. The school will handle discipline for Education Code violations administratively.

02/19/2024 Cope Middle School

Redlands Police Department, Cope Middle School Administration and Redlands Unified School District personnel were made aware of a student making a threat against Cope Middle School on Instagram. School personnel worked with the RPD and District Safety team to identify, isolate, and search the student. 

The juvenile admitted to making the statement on Instagram, but said he was joking. RPD contacted the student’s parent who allowed police to conduct a consent search of his residence. No firearms were located. And there are none registered to the parent. Police determined that there is no credible threat at this time, and there is no danger to Cope Middle students or staff.

02/13/2024 Mission Elementary School/Cope Middle School

School administrators reported a threat made Tuesday against Mission Elementary School. Investigators determined the threat was made by a Cope Middle School student. Redlands Police were able to identify the student.

Investigators determined there was no credible threat and no danger to students or staff. The student was counseled, and the school is handling the discipline administratively.

02/13/2024 Cope Middle School

A teacher overheard a student tell another student he was going to bring a gun to school.

Redlands Police investigated and met with the student’s father. Police verified that there were no guns in the student’s home and there was no credible threat and no danger to students or staff. The student was counseled, and the school is handling the discipline administratively.

02/12/2024 Smiley Elementary School

School administration contacted RPD after a 9-year-old student reported that during an argument another 9-year-old threatened to shoot him.

Redlands Police investigated. Witnesses said they never heard anyone mention a gun. Officers contacted the suspect and his parents at their residence. The family consented to a search of their home and police confirmed there were no weapons. The threat was unfounded.

02/10/2024 Kingsbury Elementary School

Redlands Police responded to a report of a threat made Saturday in an online text thread among a group of elementary school students. During the thread, a 10-year-old student posted a video of himself with a handgun and said he was going to bring the gun to school on Monday and shoot one of the other students.

RPD was able to determine the student’s identity and contacted him and his mother at their residence. The gun was found to be a water pistol, and there were no weapons registered to the family. The student told police he was just joking. The threat was unfounded and no crime was committed.

1/10/2024 Citrus Valley High School A female student located a note in the female restroom sanitary bin indicating a threat against Citrus Valley High School. 

Redlands Police Department immediately launched an investigation, and the school was placed into safe and secure mode. Upon the arrival of the K9 unit, the school was placed in lockdown to ensure the safety of the students. The K9 unit did not locate any firearms or ammunition in targeted areas. At this time, the threat does not appear to be credible. Officers will conduct extra patrols in the area to ensure the safety of the students and faculty.  

12/13/2023 Crafton Elementary School Redlands Police assisted another agency in the arrest of a suspect at Crafton Park. Crafton Elementary School went into safe and secure mode while the suspect was located. The suspect was arrested without further incident. 
11/18/2023 Citrus Valley High School

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies contacted Redlands Police regarding a threatening social media post involving Citrus Valley High School. Following investigation, police learned the threat was posted by a 9-year-old Highland girl.

Police conducted a consent search of the girl’s home and found she did not have access to weapons. The girl’s family cooperated with the investigation. It was determined the threat was unfounded. The family was provided with counseling for the child.

11/14/2023 Cope Middle School

Redlands Police arrested two Cope Middle School students Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 14, after a loaded gun was discovered where it had been discarded in a campus restroom.

 

Officers were on campus after responding to a report of a bomb threat that was phoned in to the school earlier in the day. RPD worked with campus safety and school administrators. Following investigation, including a thorough search of the campus with a police K9, that threat was determined to be unfounded.

 

As police were completing their investigation, they received a report that a student was seen discarding a handgun into a trash receptacle in the restroom. Police searched the restroom and recovered the loaded weapon.

Following investigation, officers identified a 13-year-old boy who had discarded the weapon. Further investigation identified a 14-year-old boy who had originally brought the gun to school.

 

Following a search of their homes, both teens were arrested for possession of a loaded firearm on campus.

10/24/2023 Redlands High School

School administrators received an anonymous tip during lunch period that a student was in possession of a firearm and had a list of targets. Based on the circumstances, administrators ended lunch early.

The Redlands Police School Resource Officer contacted the student and determined he was not in possession of a firearm or any weapon and did not have a list of targets. Police contacted the student’s family who consented to a search of their home. Officers confirmed the student does not have access to weapons. The threat was determined not to be credible.

10/17/2023 Clement Middle School

A student was having issues with another student and made threats against her and the school.

Redlands Police responded to the campus and contacted the student and his mother. Officers conducted a consent search of the student’s home and determined he had no access to weapons and the threat was not credible. The school is handling the administrative discipline process.

10/04/2023 Clement Middle School

A student reported receiving threats from another student that he would shoot him.

Police contacted everyone involved. The suspect student denied making the threats. Officers went to the suspect’s residence, performed a consent search for weapons and determined that the student has no access to weapons. School officials will conduct a separate investigation to determine appropriate discipline.

10/03/2023 Mariposa Elementary School

An 8-year-old student told a group of students he was going to bring a gun to a school event. School administrators learned of the apparent threat and notified Redlands Police.

Officers contacted the student and his family and conducted a consent search of his home. The student had no access to weapons. The threat was unfounded. School administrators notified families of students. The school is handling the administrative discipline process.

09/27/2023 Franklin Elementary School

A student brought a BB gun to school. The principal confiscated the BB gun and contacted Redlands Police.

Officers contacted the student and verified that he had no other weapons. Officers responded to the student’s home and determined that he had no access to weapons. Police determined there was no credible threat. The student told police he was upset over being bullied. The student was counseled. School administrators notified families of students. The school is handling the administrative discipline process.

09/22/2023 Cope Middle School

An 11-year-old student told another student that she had a handgun in her pocket. Other students overheard the remarks and reported it to school administrators who contacted Redlands Police.

RPD contacted the student and determined she did not have a weapon. Officers also contacted her family and determined that there were no weapons in the house and the student did not have access to weapons. The threat was unfounded. School administrators notified families of students. The school is handling the administrative discipline process.

09/21/2023

Lugonia Elementary School

A 9-year-old student was being called names by another student. He pushed her against a wall and said he was going to shoot up the school.

Redlands Police responded and contacted the student and his mother. Police conducted a consent search of the student’s home and determined there were no weapons in the home, and the student had no access to weapons. He said he made the threats because he was upset. The threat was determined to be unfounded, and the student was counseled.

09/14/2023

Cope Middle School

Administrators reported they had received an alert from the school district’s Gaggle student safety monitoring software regarding a threat against the school on Friday.

UPDATED: Police made contact with the student and learned that he had not attended school the day the message was sent. Officers conducted a consent search of the student’s home and determined he had no access to weapons.

After further investigation on Friday, officers identified the student who had sent the message. The student and his parents were counseled. The threat was determined to be unfounded. The school is handling the administrative discipline process.

09/11/2023 Crafton Elementary School

A 6-year-old student threatened to harm two other students with a gun and a knife. No weapons were seen.

Officers contacted all students involved and their parents and conducted a consent search of the student’s home. Officers found a BB-gun in the parents’ room but no other firearms. The threat was found not to be credible. The school is handling the administrative discipline process.

08/30/2023 Redlands High School

Redlands Police received a report of a video showing the Redlands High School campus in which an adult subject discusses how to conduct a school shooting. The man did not make any actionable threats and at this time it does not appear any crimes were committed.

RPD contacted the subject in the video and determined the threat was not credible. The man told police he was just educating the public. School administrators sent a letter to parents notifying them of the incident and the results of the investigation.
05/12/2023 Citrus Valley High School RPD responded to calls of a sound like an explosion on campus at Citrus Valley High School during lunch period Friday afternoon. The campus was placed on lockdown until shortly before 3 p.m.. Officers arrived and determined that two students had set off a firework. Both students are in custody. No injuries or damage were reported. There is no threat to the school, students or staff.
04/13/2023 Moore Middle School

RPD received information that a student overheard another student making threats against the school.

An RPD school resource officer investigated the reports and confirmed with students and the teacher that there was a student outburst but no threats were made. A consensual search of the student’s residence confirmed that there was no access to firearms. No elements of a criminal threat were found. School administrators addressed the student’s outburst and other issues.

02/17/2023 Arrowhead Christian Academy Redlands Police responded at about 10 a.m. Friday morning to a threat written on a boys’ bathroom wall at Arrowhead Christian Academy. School administrators notified parents and students were released prior to police arriving on campus. Later in the morning, photos of the threatening message were circulated by students at other Redlands high school campuses.

Redlands Police conducted an investigation and searched the campus using a dog trained in detecting firearms. It was determined that the threat was not credible.  Police have found no credible threat to any other campuses.

02/15/2023 Kingsbury Elementary School

Staff members at the school reported that they overheard a third-grade student making statements about bringing a gun to school.

A Redlands Police School Resource Officer conducted a threat assessment investigation, contacted the student’s parents at their residence and determined the student had no access to firearms. The threat was found not to be credible. The school is handling the administrative discipline process.

02/10/2023

Redlands Unified School District (off site)

San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies contacted RPD to report that an Orangewood High School student called them to report that her ex-boyfriend threatened to shoot up a Redlands Unified School District dance being held that day in the Yucaipa Community Center. Redlands Police handled the incident because the victim is a Redlands resident.

RPD contacted the suspect who admitted making the statement in anger. Officers responded to the suspect’s residence in Fontana and obtained permission to search it for firearms. No weapons were found. RUSD security personnel were advised.

Franklin Elementary School

A fifth-grade student threatened to bring a gun to school.

Redlands Police contacted the student’s parents and conducted a consent search at the child’s home. Officers determined the student did not have access to firearms.

02/09/2023

Citrus Valley High School

A 17-year-old student brandished a knife toward another student at a bus stop near the campus after school. The next day the student brought the knife to school and hid it in some bushes on campus.

Redlands Police located the knife and arrested the student for brandishing a weapon and possessing a fixed blade knife on campus. He was cited and released to his parent.

02/07/2023 Redlands High School

District administrators were alerted that a student overheard another student talking about shooting up the school and contacted Redlands Police.

An RPD School Resource Officer contacted the student and determined the comments were made in a joking manner with his friends. Police contacted the parents of all of the involved students and determined that none of the students have access to firearms. The threat was determined not to be credible. The district is handling the administrative discipline process.

01/25/2023 Moore Middle School

Administrators received an alert that a student posted a bomb threat on Google Classroom, a web-based computer network used by the district.

 

The student was contacted by police and denied making the threat. Investigation determined that an unknown subject accessed the student’s computer account to post the threat. The student’s parents were contacted and consented to a search of the home. The threat was unfounded.

 
01/19/2023 Moore Middle School

The principal contacted RPD to report a student posting a bomb threat on Google Classroom, an web-based computer network used by the district.

The student was contacted and police determined that he had forgotten to log off a school computer. An unknown subject used the computer to post the threat. The student’s parents were contacted and consented to a search of the home. The threat was unfounded.

12/08/2022 Redlands High School

A student reported threatening messages from another student against the school.

Redlands Police investigated the threat and contacted the student who initially denied sending the messages. He then admitted sending the messages but claimed they were a joke. Officers searched the student’s residence and found nothing consistent with carrying out the threat.

12/06/2022 Cope Middle School

While walking to school in the area of Center Street and Cypress Avenue at approximately 8:45 a.m. a student observed a man in a vehicle masturbating as the student walked by. The suspect was described as a white male, 40-50 years old, heavyset with dark hair and a receding hairline. He was wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt and dark blue jeans. His vehicle was described as a white Honda or Nissan 4-door sedan.  The man never exited his vehicle and did not approach or speak to the student.  

Police checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
11/02/2022 Clement Middle School

A 12-year-old Clement student used a pocket knife to cut another student’s hand during lunch period Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 2.

The school nurse and Redlands Fire Department paramedics treated the student’s injuries and school administrators secured the suspect student until Redlands Police School Resource Officers arrived on campus. Officers located the knife and the student was arrested and transported to juvenile hall.
10/04/2022 Cope Middle School

Two students triggered a computer alert system used by the Redlands Unified School District that flags certain words if they are used on district computers. The students noticed that another student had not logged out of his account on the school computer system. They used that student’s account to send an email to the principal with the subject line “This is a bomb trat (sic)” which triggered the alert.

The students were contacted and indicated they had sent the email as a joke. No direct threat was made. The district is handling the administrative discipline process.

10/04/2022 Cope Middle School

A school administrator overheard a student make a statement about having a gun in his backpack. The statement was made after the administrator had confiscated a football from the student.

The student admitted making the statement to get a reaction. He did not have a gun in his backpack or access to firearms. The district is handling the administrative discipline process.

09/26/2022

Cope Middle School

School administrators received an anonymous tip that a student was overheard making threats to “shoot up” the campus on the last day of school.

Officers contacted the suspect student and his mother at the student’s home. The mother told police there were no firearms in the home and consented to a search. No firearms were located and there are no firearms registered. The student told officers he was joking when he made the statement. Officers counseled the student about the seriousness of making such statements. RUSD is handling the administrative discipline process.

09/23/2022

Redlands High School

RPD responded to a report of a text message sent to a student regarding a bomb threat directed at teachers during first period. Police cleared the campus area of students and staff while the department’s K9 responded. The K9 did not alert on any bomb material and no suspicious devices were located.

Investigation traced the threat to a student at Redlands East Valley High School, who was contacted and admitted to sending the text as a joke. He said he was provoked by another student at RHS. That student was contacted and also admitted to provoking the text message. The residences of both students were searched and no further evidence was located. Both juveniles were arrested for making a false bomb threat.

09/02/2022

Cope Middle School

School administrators contacted RPD to report a student may be in possession of a firearm on campus. Two students reported overhearing the suspect student responding “yes” when he was asked if he had a gun.

An RPD School Resource Officer contacted the student who said he was participating in a challenge in which he had to respond to prompts with a predetermined statement, intended as a joke. The student was counseled about his choice of language on campus. The School Resource Officer contacted a parent who assured officers that the student has no access to firearms.  RUSD is handling the administrative discipline process.

09/01/2022

Citrus Valley High School

Redlands Unified School District Campus Safety contacted RPD after a student reported that she overheard a male student tell another that he was going to bring a gun to school.

The suspect student was identified and admitted making the statement but said that it was intended as a joke. He did not express any intent to harm other students or staff members. RPD responded to the student’s residence and verified he has no access to firearms or other weapons. No evidence was found to indicate a credible threat. RUSD is handling the administrative discipline process.

08/31/2022 Barbara Phelps County High School

RPD responded to a report of a student attempting to sell a handgun, including pictures of the gun posted to social media.

Police made contact with the student at his mother’s residence in Redlands. His mother was cooperative and allowed a search of the residence which turned up no guns. The juvenile told police the pictures were of an airsoft gun that was at his father’s residence in Banning. Officers contacted the juvenile’s father in Banning. He was cooperative and provided the airsoft gun. He also allowed a search of his residence and no additional weapons were located. School officials were advised.

08/30/2022

Franklin Elementary School

RPD was contacted by school administrators after a 9-year-old student was found on campus in possession of a weapon. When the officer arrived, the principal had already isolated the student and confiscated the weapon, which was found to be an airsoft gun with an orange tip.

The officer spoke to the student who said he brought the weapon to show his friends. He did not express any intent to harm anyone and there was no evidence to indicate any such intention. The officer conducted a home visit and verified that there were no other weapons in the home. Based on the student’s age, no criminal charges may be filed. The school district is handling the administrative discipline process.

08/24/2022 Arrowhead Christian Academy

The school’s principal contacted RPD after receiving a report that a student mentioned bringing a gun to school.

The statement was investigated and determined to be unfounded. Based on additional information, however, RPD conducted follow-up investigation at the student’s home. The student’s parents were cooperative with police and confirmed they owned several firearms. Officers were permitted inside to verify that all firearms are kept properly secured. Officers determined that there was no crime.

08/24/2022 Cope Middle School

School administrators contacted RPD to report written threats made by a seventh-grade student against a classmate.

RPD investigated. A consent search of the suspect’s residence indicated he had no access to weapons. The other student’s family did not desire prosecution. The school district is handling the administrative discipline process.

08/23/2022 Clement Middle School

RPD responded to the campus after school administrators were informed by a student that another student may be in possession of a gun. Following an earlier altercation the suspect student reportedly threatened to bring a weapon to school. Working with school administrators, an RPD School Resource Officer contacted the suspect student, conducted a search and verified that he was not in possession of a firearm. The student also denied that the altercation had occurred or that he made any statements threatening to bring a weapon to school. 

Both students were counseled on the consequences of the words they used during the incident. Based on the threat of a firearm, the officer responded to the suspect student’s residence, performed a search of the home with the consent of a parent and verified that the student does not have access to any firearms. The school district is following up with both students through the administrative discipline process.

06/01/2022 Cope Middle School

During a verbal altercation in class with another student, a student made threatening statements against the school.

RPD responded and interviewed the student who said he only made the statements out of anger and was not going to carry out the threat. The student was counseled and a home check was conducted. He was found not to have access to any weapons. The school district is handling the administrative discipline process.
06/01/2022 Citrus Valley High School

Citrus Valley High School was placed on lockdown for two hours Wednesday as Redlands Police conducted a search of a campus building after a student reported hearing other students refer to having a gun and ammunition.

School administrators contacted RPD shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, after a student reported overhearing two other students in a hallway during passing period refer to having a gun and ammunition. No specific threat against the campus or other students or staff was heard. The student who reported the comments was unable to provide a description of the other students except that they were wearing black or dark clothing.

Using K9 units specializing in detecting weapons, police conducted a thorough search of multiple classrooms and individual searches of all students who matched the clothing description.

After approximately two hours, with no firearms or ammunition found, the lockdown was lifted. Redlands Police Officers remained on campus to continue the investigation.

“The Redlands Police Department takes the safety of our school campuses and all of the students and staff seriously and investigates all threats and rumors of threatening behavior, no matter how vague,” said Redlands Chief of Police Chris Catren.

The Redlands Unified School District provided crisis counseling to students and staff after the lockdown was lifted and will also have counselors available on Thursday.

04/22/2022

Citrus Valley High School School administrators received information that students were in possession of a weapon in an area near the campus. Redlands Police were notified and administration and the Safety Team worked with RPD to locate the students. During the incident, classes and activities were moved to a safe and secure area until officers determined that it was safe to return to normal activities. 

 

The students were located on the outside perimeter adjacent to the campus and searched.  One student was found to be in possession of a BB gun. Officers determined that there was no danger to CVHS students or staff and that no crime occurred. The school district is handling the administrative discipline process.

03/08/2022 Clement Middle School

Several students received an anonymous message on their iPhones while on a bus ride home after school. The message included a screenshot of a general threat against a school campus. 

Investigation indicates the message was a generic screen grab and police do not believe the threat is credible. However, the investigation is ongoing and police will have additional patrols at the school on Wednesday.

03/01/2022 Cope Middle School

The Redlands Police Department’s School Resource Officer responded to a reported threat by a student against the school campus.

Investigation determined the student made the threat out of frustration and anger with no intention to carry it out. Police conducted a consent search of the student’s home and determined he had no access to weapons and the threat was not credible. The school district is handling the administrative discipline process.

02/17/2022 Cope Middle School

Police responded to a report that a student heard another student threaten to shoot a third student.

Police interviewed everyone involved including the accused student’s mother. The student denied making any threats and no other witnesses were found to corroborate the report. The student’s mother was cooperative with police and assured officers that there were no weapons in the house. Police were to conduct a search when the student’s mother returns home. 

02/09/2022 Citrus Valley High School

Administrators were made aware of an unspecified threat on a social media site. CVHS administration alerted Redlands Police.

RPD investigated the threat. There is no credible evidence that the threat was directed toward the CVHS campus or any RUSD school site. Police believe the threat is not credible. The investigation is continuing and as a precaution, RPD will have additional officers at the campus on Thursday. 

02/07/2022 Clement Middle School

A female student was sitting on the curb near the west driveway to the campus before school when she was approached by another juvenile described as a short, white, high school age female with blonde hair, wearing a purple sweater, light pants and a flowered backpack. She was accompanied by a black male juvenile, high school age, wearing a black zippered hoodie, navy blue shirt and blue pants. The female suspect pointed a knife at the victim and threatened to stab her. The victim got up and walked away without further incident and reported the encounter to school administrators who contacted Redlands Police.

The incident is currently under investigation.  

02/03/2022 Orangewood High School

Officers responded to a report of a student with a gun on the campus. No gun was seen and no threats were reported against the school or its students.

Officers contacted the 16-year-old student and no gun was located. However the student admitted to owning a gun and consented to a search of his home where officers located a loaded and unregistered handgun. The student was arrested and taken to Juvenile Hall.

02/02/2022 Redlands High School

The school received a voicemail from a caller who made threats to the campus.

Police investigated and traced the call to an out-of-state number. Investigators contacted police in that jurisdiction as well as San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department investigators. The call is believed to have been a hoax. As a precautionary measure, Redlands Police assigned additional patrols at the campus for the following day.

02/02/2022 Cope Middle School

Police received a report that a student overheard another student making threats against the campus.

The RPD School Resource Officer assigned to the campus contacted the student and conducted a search at his home. No weapons were found and the threat was determined to be unfounded.

01/25/2022 Citrus Valley High School

On Jan. 25, Redlands Police responded to a report from a parent stating that her student had received threats a day earlier from a classmate who also made further threats against the school. The reporting party only knew the suspect by his first name.

Patrol officers identified the suspect and he was contacted by RPD’s School Resource Officer assigned to the campus. The suspect denied making any threatening statements. Other students were interviewed but none reported hearing the threatening statements. Police served a search warrant on the student’s home and no weapons were located. The suspect was arrested for making criminal threats and released to his parents.

01/18/2022 Cope Middle School

Redlands Police received a report of social media posts over the weekend making vague implications at Cope Middle School. No discernible threats were made against the campus or any of its students.

Out of an abundance of caution, police provided extra patrol around the campus the following day while investigators attempt to determine the identity of the person who originated the posts.
12/15/2021 Redlands High School

Two juniors were struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk, suffering minor to moderate injuries, as they walked from the south campus to north campus.

The students were in the crosswalk at Citrus Avenue and Church Street at about 7:30 a.m.  As they crossed, a man driving a Toyota pickup was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Church onto eastbound Citrus.

The driver reported that his view was obstructed by fogging on his windshield and the sun hitting the windshield, and he didn’t see the teens before striking them with his vehicle, knocking both of them to the ground.

Redlands Fire Department paramedics responded and treated the students on scene. One was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The other was taken to the hospital by a parent. Injuries were reported to be minor to moderate and not life-threatening.

The driver was determined not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and there are no charges at this time.

12/13/2021 Clement Middle School

A teacher overheard a student make a threat against the school and reported it to school administrators who called Redlands Police.

An RPD School Resource Officer contacted the student who said he was “joking.” The officer conducted a search of the student’s residence and determined he has no access to firearms. The threat was determined not to be credible. The school district is handling the administrative discipline process.

12/09/2021 Moore Middle School

Redlands Police and Fire Department paramedics responded to the school Thursday afternoon after a student brought cannabis-infused “edibles” to school and distributed them to several other students.

At least one student ingested the product and became ill. She was treated by paramedics at the school and released to her parents.

RPD detectives and personnel from Child Protective Services conducted an investigation and contacted the parents of the child who brought the edibles to school. A report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges.

School officials directly notified the parents of all students involved and sent an additional notification to all school families.

12/09/2021 Citrus Valley High School

School officials received an anonymous tip that a juvenile had a handgun in his vehicle at the school. There were no threats made.

Redlands Police and school staff contacted the student who denied having a gun and was very cooperative. Police searched the student, his backpack, his vehicle and his residence. No guns were located and the student has no access to guns.

12/09/2021 Unknown 

Overnight Redlands Police were made aware of an unspecified threat against a school campus spreading through Instagram and other social media platforms. The threat does not name any particular school and it is unknown whether it even originated locally or in some other jurisdiction or state.

The message was reported to Redlands Unified School District personnel by students who had seen it and subsequently reported to RPD. Redlands Police contacted several students who were known to have forwarded the message. None of them knew where the message had originated.

At this time, there is no evidence to suggest the threat is directed to any Redlands school site, however, RPD and RUSD school security will be on heightened alert to respond to any potential developing threat.

12/08/2021 Orangewood High School

Redlands Police arrested an 18-year-old Orangewood High School student after he was found with an unloaded handgun on the campus. School administrators contacted Redlands Police after learning that James Anthony Jones, of San Bernardino, had brought a gun onto the campus. Campus security contacted Jones and located a backpack containing the gun.

Redlands Police determined it was an unloaded, unserialized “ghost gun.”

Police also recovered stolen property from multiple vehicle burglaries that occurred outside of Redlands. Jones was arrested for felony possession of a firearm on school grounds and possession of stolen property.

There is no indication that Jones made any threats against anyone on the campus and no ammunition or other weapons were located. The investigation is continuing.

12/06/2021 Citrus Valley High School

Redlands Police were called after campus security at Citrus Valley High School were notified by a student that another student allegedly had a gun with him, but no gun was seen.

School staff detained the student and conducted a search. The student was found with a knife. Redlands Police interviewed the student and his father and conducted a search of the student’s residence. No guns were located or registered to anyone at the home and the student does not have access to guns. No threats were made against the school or toward any other student.

The student and his father were counseled. The school district is dealing with possession of the knife through the administrative discipline process.

12/03/2021 Redlands High School

A student was overheard making threats against the school.

Officers contacted the student and determined that the comments were not intended as threats and no credible threat existed. Officers searched the student’s home and determined he had no access to weapons. The incident is being handled through the administrative discipline process.

12/03/2021 Citrus Valley High School

A student was conducting what he called a “social experiment” and not speaking to anyone on campus  for several days. Because of his odd behavior, other students inferred that he was threatening the school.

Officers were on campus Friday morning and contacted the student before class.  They determined that he had not actually made any credible threat. Officers searched the student’s home and determined that he had no access to weapons. The incident is being handled by the school through the administrative discipline process.

A Redlands Police School Resource Officer responded to the campus after a report that a student had threatened another student.

Officers investigated and determined that the threat was not credible and the student did not intend to harm anyone. The student’s mother cooperated with the investigation. Officers searched the student’s home and determined he did not have access to any weapons. The student was counseled and the school is handling the discipline through the administrative discipline process.

11/18/2021 Clement Middle School

A Redlands Police School Resource Officer responded to the campus after a report that a student was overheard making threatening statements involving the school.

Working with Campus Safety, the student was identified and contacted. The investigation determined that the threats were not credible. The student’s mother responded to the campus, cooperated with police and allowed officers to search the home for weapons. No weapons were found. The student was counseled and the school is handling the discipline through the administrative discipline process.

11/10/2021 Smiley Elementary School

A parent notified school administrators after his child brought home live ammunition that was given to him by another student.

RPD officers interviewed the students involved and conducted a search on the campus. No firearms were located. Investigators also contacted the parents of the student who brought the ammunition to school. No firearms are registered at the home. The investigation is continuing.
10/27/2021 Cope Middle School Following a fight on campus earlier in the week, one of the students involved threatened on Wednesday to shoot another student. Redlands Police investigated the incident and determined that the student had no access to firearms and the threat is not credible. The student was counseled and the district is handling the incident through the administrative discipline process.
10/07/2021 Redlands High School

A 16-year-old female student reported to school officials that a man tried to talk to her and continued to walk very close to her as she walked to school Thursday morning. The teen said she had to kick the man to get him to leave her alone.

Police investigated and identified the suspect as Donald Cortez, a 56-year-old transient. Officers submitted an arrest warrant, known as a Ramey warrant. They located Cortez and maintained surveillance on him until the warrant was approved. At that point Cortez was arrested for annoying/molesting a child. He was booked at West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 bail.

09/20/2021 Moore Middle School

Police responded to a report of graffiti written on a bathroom wall at the school, indicating a threat to the campus on Wednesday, Sept. 22. 

The graffiti was removed. School security and law enforcement will have an increased presence on the campus on Wednesday. 

UPDATE: Increased RPD presence was visible at the campus on Wednesday. There were no problems reported.

09/13/2021 Kingsbury Elementary School

Officers responded to a report of threats on the campus. An investigation determined that two students had threatened to shoot one another with guns.

Parents of both students were contacted and cooperated with police. Both residences were searched and police determined that neither student had access to guns. The students were disciplined by the school through the administrative discipline process. 
08/19/2021 Citrus Valley High School

The school district office received an anonymous tip that a student may have a gun on campus. Redlands Police and campus and district security responded and detained the student. A search of his backpack revealed a small folding knife, but no gun. The student denied having a gun on campus or at his residence.

A search of the campus and the student’s home was conducted with assistance from  a Riverside Police Department gun detection dog. No firearms were located. The district will handle the student discipline through the administrative discipline process.
08/17/2021 Cope Middle School

A suspicious driver in a white sedan with possible front end damage was reported to have approached a student who was walking home from school north on South San Mateo Street between Olive and Brookside avenues. The man asked the girl if she wanted a ride home. She told him no. When he continued to ask her questions, she ran away. 

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 30s or 40s, with short black hair and a mustache. He had tattoos on his chest and was last seen wearing a blue shirt.
04/20/2021 Clement Middle School

A female student was walking home from school just before 2 p.m. in the area of Orange Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The student reported that a  man pulled up to the curb next to her and asked if she needed a ride home. When she said no, the man asked for her phone number. She ignored him and the man drove away. The vehicle was described only as a big white truck. 

The incident is currently under investigation.
03/05/2020 Citrus Valley High School Police responded to a call of two students fighting on campus. One of the students left campus before police arrived. Later in the day the student posted an indirect threat on social media. Police located the student and his mother. Police investigated the threat and determined it was not credible. The student was cited for assault and released.
03/03/2020 Redlands High School Redlands Police assisted the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in investigating threats reportedly made by a Loma Linda resident who is a student at Redlands High School against other people at the school. Sheriff’s Department investigators determined that the threat was unfounded.
02/13/2020 Cope Middle School

Police responded to reports of threats by an 11-year-old student against another student and a teacher.

Investigating officers substantiated that threats were made toward another student but not toward the teacher. The student was evaluated and his residence was checked. Investigators determined that the threat was not credible. The student was released to his parents and the school is handling discipline through the administrative discipline process. 
02/08/2020 Franklin Elementary School

An argument between two 9-year-old students using a video chat app escalated and one of the students threatened the other. The victim’s parents reported the issue to school administrators on Monday.

Redlands Police officers contacted each of the involved parties and conducted a search of the suspect’s house. It was determined that no credible threat existed. All parties were counseled. The school is handling discipline through the administrative discipline process.

A 9-year-old student made threats against another student.

Officers responded and contacted the principal, the student and his parents. The residence was searched and it was determined there was no credible threat. The school is handling the incident through the administrative discipline process.

Officers responded to a report of a 13-year-old student who was overheard making threats against a teacher’s family. 

Officers contacted the student at the school and determined he had made what he considered a  “joke.” Officers responded to the student’s home and spoke with his family. A consent search of the home was conducted and it was determined that no threat exists. The school district is addressing the issue through the administrative discipline process.
01/22/2020 Clement Middle School

The Principal received a third-party rumor that a student posted threats to the school to another student on Instagram. 

Police contacted the student and parents at their residence, and determined the post had been misinterpreted and was meant as a joke to a friend. The student was counseled regarding his choice of words. The school is handling through the administrative discipline process. 

01/15/2020 Moore Middle School Police were contacted after a teacher overheard a 13-year-old male student singing a song about a gun in his backpack. No direct threats to shoot anyone were reported. Officers contacted the student and his mother. Officers searched his backpack and his home and no weapons were located. The student was counseled and the school handled the incident administratively.
01/07/2020 Kingsbury Elementary School A 10-year-old student was overheard talking to another student about bringing a gun to school and shooting people he didn’t like. The school took administrative action pending an investigation. Police interviewed family members and conducted a search of the home. It was determined that no credible threat existed.

Redlands Police responded to a report from staff at Kingsbury Elementary School who overheard a 9-year-old student say he was going to bring weapons to shoot up the school.

Investigators contacted the student and spoke with his mother. Officers conducted a consent search of the student’s home and no weapons were located. The district is handling the incident administratively.
11/22/2019 Citrus Valley High School A 17-year-old San Bernardino boy threatened two Citrus Valley High School students. The threat stemmed from a fight involving the suspect’s girlfriend, also a CVHS student. The suspect is not a student in the Redlands Unified School District.  Redlands Police investigated and determined there was no imminent threat to CVHS students. The teen was arrested for making criminal threats.
11/17/2019 Moore Middle School Teachers reported receiving vaguely threatening emails from a student. Redlands Police were contacted. Investigators spoke to the student and his parents and conducted a search of the student’s home. It was determined that no threat was intended and no credible threat existed.
11/13/2019 Moore Middle School Police responded to a reported threat by a male student against a female student. Officers investigated and spoke to both students and their parents. The investigation determined that the male student had not intended his remarks to be taken as a threat. Police determined the threat to be unfounded.
11/07/2019 Mariposa Elementary School A 10-year-old student reported that another 10-year-old student had made threats against him. 

Redlands Police and school administrators investigated. The suspect student denied making threats and witnesses said the incident never happened. Investigators determined there was no credible threat.

11/07/2019 Cope Middle School School officials reported to Redlands Police that they had received information of threats by a 13-year-old male student against two other students. 

Redlands Police investigated and determined the student does not have access to weapons. He was cited for making criminal threats and released to his parents.

10/25/2019 Moore Middle School

Redlands Police officers responded to the campus Friday morning to investigate a threatening note a student reportedly found in a campus restroom.

Investigators do not believe the threat is credible, however, police will remain on campus to provide additional security.
10/11/2019 Redlands High School/Citrus Valley High School The Redlands Unified School District was made aware of a threat on social media related to Friday’s football game between RHS and CVHS. The threat was immediately investigated and determined not credible. In an abundance of caution, there will be an increased presence of security and law enforcement at the game.
10/02/2019 Clement Middle School Several parents reported that a student threatened that his father and his gang would come to school the next day to shoot their students. All parties were contacted. Investigators determined the parties had been involved in a verbal argument.  The statements about shooting were found to be regarding a video game and no credible threat exists. The school is handling the incident.
9/27/2019 Crafton Elementary School

A concerned parent reported to police that his fourth grade son overheard that another fourth grader had threatened to shoot him.

Officers interviewed several students and the teacher. Witnesses provided conflicting accounts of who made the threat. Two suspects were identified and both denied making any threat.  Parents of both suspects were contacted and it was determined that no credible threat exists. The school district is handling the matter.

Citrus Valley High School

An anonymous caller provided information through the We Tip service, reporting that a student made threats on social media to “shoot up” the school. The name of the student given by the anonymous caller does not match the name of any student in the district’s database. Redlands Police investigated and contacted students with similar names.

Redlands Police investigated and determined that no credible threat exists. Police will provide extra patrols to the school on Monday and will take additional action to ensure the safety of the campus, students, faculty and staff.

5/15/2019

Citrus Valley High School

Two students walking near campus before school Wednesday encountered two individuals walking on the sidewalk on Pioneer Avenue near a school parking lot. The two unknown individuals laughed and told the students not to go to school today because it was going to get “shot up.” They then continued to walk west on Pioneer, past the stadium. The students immediately reported the incident to school security and the Redlands Police School Resource Officer began to investigate. Additional RPD officers were immediately dispatched and attempted to locate the suspects.

The suspects were described as male Hispanics, approximately 20 years old, with short black hair, both wearing black pants and black short sleeved T-shirts. Police are continuing efforts to identify and locate the suspects. There is no credible threat to the students or the campus and school continued as scheduled.

Crafton Elementary School

Officers responded after the school’s principal reported receiving an electronic alert notifying her of an email from a student’s school account that contained a possible threat against a teacher.

Investigators contacted the principal, the teacher, three students and their parents. A search was conducted and the teacher and principal have been briefed on the outcome of the investigation. Further investigation is being handled by the school internally.

A student told another student at various times over several days that he was going to bring a gun to school and point it at him.

Officers investigated and determined that there is an ongoing issue between the students. All parties were contacted and the suspect student’s home was searched. Investigators determined that no credible threat exists. The other student’s parents did not desire prosecution. The school will handle administratively.

Judson and Brown Elementary

Redlands Police received reports of a video posted to YouTube showing two teen boys walking around the campus saying it is “haunted.” During the video both teens made reference to blowing up other schools, but also stated that it was a joke.

Redlands Police contacted both teens and their parents. All parties were cooperative and understood the seriousness of the statements. Investigators determined the statements were meant as a prank and no threat existed. The video has been removed from YouTube.

Moore Middle School

A student contacted the principal at Moore Middle School reporting a conversation on Snapchat between an eighth-grader at Moore and another unknown person that appeared to be a threat against the school.

Investigators determined that the eighth-grader was using terms used in the game Fortnite. Officers contacted the student and his parents at his residence. The student confirmed to officers that he was talking about playing Fortnite against kids at school and didn’t have any intentions of hurting anyone. Investigators determined that there was no threat and advised school administrators.

The school’s principal reported that she had been approached after school hours Monday night by a parent who said a student had found a note indicating that there would be a shooting at the campus the following day. Police contacted the student who admitted he had made the story up as a joke for his friends. The student found a paper on the ground and pretended to read from it. The paper actually contained nothing more than math equations. The student also said he told his friends afterward that it was a joke. Police conducted a search of the student’s home and determined no credible threat existed.

An 11-year-old student attemding an after-school program at the University of Redlands made threats to staff indicating that he wished he had a gun so he could shoot up the school and steal equipment.

The student’s after-school program counselor contacted school administration who contacted Redlands Police. Officers contacted the boy at his home and determined that no credible threat existed. The juvenile stated that he did not want to shoot up the school. The student was counseled and school staff will follow up.

Both students were counseled by school administrators. The suspect student said he was joking and the other student said he did not feel victimized. The suspect student’s father responded to the school and both parent and child were counseled.

Several students reported to school security that another 16-year-old student made detailed threats to “shoot up the school.”

Redlands Police interviewed the witnesses and contacted the suspect and his parents. The student denied making the threats and no weapons were located in the home. However, because of the detailed nature of the threat and the reports of several witnesses, the suspect was arrested and transported to Juvenile Hall.

Two sixth-grade students got into a fight. One of the students threatened that her dad would shoot the other student.

A fourth-grade student threatened to shoot and kill another student with a BB gun. It was Halloween and the student making the threat was wearing a SWAT costume.

Officers questioned the student and his parents. The student denied making the threat and officers determined he does not own a BB gun.

Students reported overhearing another student making threats against the campus. School officials reported the threats to police.

Police investigated, talked to witnesses and contacted the student. The student was arrested for making criminal threats and transported to Juvenile Hall.

A teacher reported overhearing a student say she was going to shoot another teacher.

The threat was made a day before the report and the student was expelled. RPD investigated and contacted the student and her guardian at their residence. No guns are registered to the guardian. A realistic looking BB gun was located and taken as evidence during a consensual search of the residence. The student was interviewed and issued a citation for making criminal threats.

Police met with the student, his parents and school officials. The threats were determined not to meet the elements of a crime. The student was counseled and parents provided with resources for additional counseling.

A student reportedly overheard a conversation that another student talked to another group of students about shooting up the school .

Officers responded and interviewed school staff and the students who were reportedly part of the conversation. After the investigation, the threats were found not to be credible and what was reported was denied by witnesses. Officers responded to the student’s house and with a parent’s consent, checked the house. There was nothing suspicious or any evidence located.

Officers responded to the school after a verbal threat by an elementary school student to blow up the school.

Officers investigated and no weapons were located. The threats were determined not to meet the elements of a crime.

Officers were called to Kingsbury Elementary School regarding a student who made a threat against another student.

The suspect student had already gone home when officers were called. School authorities did locate a small souvenir style pocket knife in the student’s possession. The victim and the victim’s parents did not desire prosecution. The suspect was contacted at his residence and there were no additional weapons located. The incident was investigated and documented.

Gorman Learning Center

A suspect made threats against a home school student who attends the Gorman Learning Center in Redlands. School was not in session at the time the threats were made. Both the suspect and the student live in Riverside County.

Riverside County Sheriff’s detectives investigated the threat and determined that it did not meet the criteria for a criminal threat. Redlands Police notified administrators of the school.

Redlands East Valley High School

A REV student reported an image distributed on a social media site with a threat indicating that there would be a shooting during a school rally on Friday. The threat did not name REV or any RUSD school and the sender could not be linked to the Redlands Unified School District.

Investigation is ongoing by the Redlands Police Department and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office to determine the source of the threat. At this time it is not believed that a credible threat exists, however, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies will be on campus Friday during REV’s rally and will patrol in the area of REV throughout the day.

During a field trip to Clement Middle School, suspect became angry and made threats to shoot up the school. The threats were overheard by a teacher and reported.

Investigators spoke to the student and his parents. The parents advised there were no guns in the home. The student and parent were cited.
