March 6, 2017 - Pulverization and other paving activities have begun on Colton Avenue between Tri City Center and New York Street, part of the PARIS resurfacing project. Paving on Colton is anticipated to begin March 16. Following completion of work on Colton Avenue, pulverization is expected to begin on Alabama Street between Redlands Boulevard and Barton Road beginning Monday, March 20. Businesses will remain accessible and no road closures are anticipated as part of this work.

All construction dates are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions. No parking signs will be posted 48 hours in advance of paving. Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. No parking signs apply to hours of operation and parking will be available at the end of each working day. Access to properties will be made available at all times. Trash collection will occur on regularly scheduled trash collection days.

The contractor, Matich Corp., of San Bernardino, was awarded a contract in the amount of $8,739,532 on Sept. 20, 2016, for the PARIS 2015 Resurfacing Project. No General Fund dollars are used to fund this project. The project is designed and managed by the City’s Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department.

The road work is part of the City’s comprehensive street resurfacing program, the Pavement Management Program (PMP), adopted by the City Council in March 2012, and the Pavement Accelerated Repair Implementation Strategy (PARIS), approved by the City Council in September 2012. The PMP and PARIS together form a comprehensive infrastructure approach to address the City’s surface street rehabilitation, repair and maintenance needs. When fully implemented, the program will result in rehabilitation and repair of two-thirds of the City’s street infrastructure over a five-year period.

The current 6-month phase of the project will include resurfacing of approximately 90 lane miles of streets throughout the City. Upon completion, the City will have completed nearly 200 miles of lane resurfacing, or approximately, 48 percent of the total PARIS project.

Street paving work is coordinated with necessary water and sewer pipeline replacement to ensure more efficient use of City funds and resources and to extend the life of the pavement surface.

The Pavement Management Program and PARIS projects will create approximately 1,100 jobs. All contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and professionals are required to carry a City of Redlands business license at each phase of the project.

Project updates will be posted on Facebook and Instagram at @muedredlands or @MUED_Redlands on Twitter. Please contact Olivia Crowley, Public Relations Coordinator at 909-798-7524 ext. 2 with any questions or concerns.
