Redlands' Best

March 8, 2017 - City crews are relocating four palms from their current location lining the sidewalk along the east side of Orange Street immediately north of Redlands Boulevard. The palms are being relocated in order to relieve crowding of the trees against storefronts and create a wider walkway for pedestrians.

Two of the palms will be relocated to vacant tree wells in the sidewalk in front of the Redlands mall. The remaining two trees will be relocated into newly constructed bulb-out tree wells near their current location along Orange Street. City crews will restripe the parking near the new bulb-outs so that the number of spaces is not reduced.

The work follows the addition of new fencing and landscape features at the entrance to the City parking on the east side of Orange Street north of Redlands Boulevard. The enhancements are part of an overall effort to improve the downtown, attract visitors and create a pedestrian corridor beginning south of vine street and extending north through the downtown. Completed improvements include the addition of shade sales, landscaping and seating in the Civic Center plaza, creation of the Orange Street Alley park, addition of bicycle racks and landscaping improvements along State Street, Citrus Avenue and other streets within the historic downtown, the addition of freeway underpass murals and the creation of gateway entry features at the downtown entrances and exits along Interstate 10.
