Redlands Police recovered two stolen poodle puppies valued at $2,400 Wednesday night and were surprised to also find a boa constrictor in the suspect’s car.

The owner of the puppies told police the suspect came to his home in the 1100 block of Oxford Street to buy the dogs. He was holding the puppies when he fled out the front door and drove away.

A patrol officer on his way to the call spotted the suspect’s vehicle, a white 4-door Chrysler passenger car, and stopped the car near Redlands Boulevard and Citrus Avenue. Both dogs were located in the car.

Redlands Animal Control officers were called to the scene after police also discovered a two-foot boa constrictor in the car’s center console. Police have not determined to whom the snake belongs.

Charges against the 25-year-old suspect have not been filed, pending treatment for an unrelated medical condition.
