Redlands Firefighters along with units from Loma Linda, Colton and Grand Terrace battled a fire at an apartment complex on Kansas Street Sunday evening.

Most Redlands Fire Department personnel had already been dispatched to a multi-casualty bus accident on Highway 38 shortly before the fire was reported at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, in the 10 block of Kansas Street.

Firefighters from Loma Linda, covering the City under a mutual aid agreement, were the first on scene and began to attack the fire. Redlands Firefighters soon arrived along with firefighters from Colton and Grand Terrace. The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes and fully contained within 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene for about two hours.

The fire originated in the exterior wall of a downstairs apartment. It traveled up along the inside of the exterior wall, to the deck patio and patio covering of the apartment above. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported. Damage to property and contents is estimated at about $40,000. Occupants from both apartments were working with the apartment managers on relocation.
