The City Council honored donors to the City’s 125th Anniversary Celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 5, presenting customized plaques and commemorative memorabilia to service clubs, businesses and individuals who have contributed between $500 and $10,000 to the yearlong celebration.

The quasquicentennial celebration kicked off Dec. 1 with the Redlands Christmas Parade and continues through Nov. 26, 2013, the 125th anniversary of the City of Redlands’ incorporation.

Unlike past anniversary celebrations, the City Council committed to marking the 125th anniversary year without spending any general funds and to rely on donor contributions for all activities.

The Kiwanis Club of Redlands made the first $10,000 donation to the celebration, making them the first “Diamond Sponsors.” Other $10,000 donations soon followed from the University of Redlands and Kaiser-Permanente. “Emerald Sponsors” American Medical Response and the Rotary Clubs of Redlands contributed $5,000 each.

“Ruby Sponsors,” contributing $1,000 include American Legion Post 106, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion; Arrowhead Orthopedics; Flamingo Cocktail Lounge, Gary Wuchenich, DDS, MS; L&L Environmental, Inc.; Redlands Teachers Association; Eadie and Payne; Jean Showalter-State Farm Insurance; B&G American Contractors; Jerry and Brenda Bean; and La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries.

“Sapphire Sponsors,” who contributed $500 include Pete and Alisha Aguilar; HDR; Rettig Machine; and Bob and Karen Gardner.

Each of the donors received a plaque with a customized logo incorporating their name or organization logo into the City’s 125th Anniversary logo, designed by Richard Pennington, of Pennington Designs. Major contributors, including $5,000 and $10,000 donors also will receive customized banners with the quasquicentennial logo. Each of the donors also received additional commemorative items in appreciation for their contributions.

Any group or individual interested in participating as a sponsor of the 125th Anniversary celebration may contact Tommi Ng at (909) 798-7514, ext. 4 or email tng@cityofredlands.org.
