                                 Redlands Police Department
                            Electronic Home Surveillance Program

New Program starting September 1, 2013

Your home can be a target of opportunity for burglars when you are away on vacation. The Redlands Police Department wants to help protect residents’ property from opportunistic thieves with a new vacation program designed to catch criminals in the act.

Beginning in September 2013, Redlands residents can contact the Redlands Police Department before leaving for any extended period of time and arrange to check out a small tracking device that can be hidden on items of value that are particularly attractive to burglars, such as home electronics, safes, or other items.

The motion sensitive device is activated once the resident leaves on vacation. Any movement of the device will set off a signal that sends a text to both the resident and the Police Department. Officers can then use tracking software with the device to quickly locate the stolen property and the thief.

The Police Department purchased the first devices with asset seizure funds, designated for non-General Fund purposes. There is no cost to participate in this program but in order to sustain the program, the police department is asking for voluntary donations to help offset the monthly service fee the Police Department has to pay.  In addition, the department is seeking donations to purchase additional devices. The cost of each device is $450 plus a $30 per month service fee.

Residents or businesses wishing to take part in the program can visit the Redlands Police Department website at www.redlandspolice.org and click on the Redlands Electronic Vacation House Stakeout Program.  Residents will be directed to two online forms that will need to be completed prior to taking part in the program.

If a resident or business owner desires to take part in a long-term deployment of a device, the resident or business owner may make a donation to fund the full cost of the device.  The person funding the device will be able to use the device during the entire funding period.

Any individual or organization wishing to donate toward the purchase and operation of additional devices may contact Lt. Travis Martinez at (909)557-6583 or tmartinez@redlandspolice.org

The tracker device program will augment the Police Department’s successful Vacation House Check program. Residents going away for an extended time can arrange with the Redlands Police Department for frequent vacation house checks by trained Citizen Volunteer Patrol members. Contact the Redlands Police Department at (909) 798-7681 or visit our website at http://cityofredlands.org/police/Reportacrime

Below are the application and the waiver. Please complete both forms prior to picking up the device. Please send email to ehsp@redlandspolice.org to set up appointment to obtain the device or if you have any questions regarding the program. A Police Department employee will contact you.

    • End date: Friday, August 8th
    • End time: 05:00pm
    • The A. K. Smiley Public Library, in cooperation with the California Center for Culture and Arts, will host a three-day exhibition of paintings by renowned artist Guan Fei from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 8-10.

Born in Qingdao, China, Guan Fei began his artistic studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in Qingdao. In 2011, Guan graduated from the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China.

Although he has had several exhibitions in China, this will be his first in the United States. In 2013, Guan spent several months in Redlands, developing a deep admiration for the community. During his visit he was inspired to paint a beautiful new series of landscapes and building portraits entitled Redlands: Southern California's Village of Orange Groves. Twenty of these works will be featured at the Smiley Library’s exhibit.

Through a translator Guan stated that the exhibit is an expression of the love he has developed for Redlands. “The theme of the exhibit is ‘Smile and Embrace.’ The name Smiley is so similar to smile, and the community has embraced me and I desire to return that affection.”

"Guan Fei’s passion for our town is readily apparent in his work," commented Library Director Don McCue. "I'm certain our patrons will enjoy his depictions of some of Redlands’ landmark buildings and impressive landscapes".

The A.K. Smiley Public Library is located at 125 W. Vine St. in Redlands. For further information please consult the library's website www.akspl.org or call 909-798-7565.
