Redlands Police Press Releases

Sept. 17, 2015 - A motorcyclist was sent to the hospital with multiple fractures to his leg after he was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning at the intersection of University Street and Citrus Avenue.

The 55-year-old Redlands man was riding his 2005 BMW 650 motorcycle north on University Street shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. As he crossed into the intersection at Citrus Avenue a 2001 Ford 500, driven by a 33-year-old Loma Linda woman, began a left turn from southbound University onto eastbound Citrus and struck the motorcycle rider, causing him to crash.

Sept. 15, 2015 - Two people were cited during a Shoulder Tap operation Thursday, Sept. 10, in which an 18-year-old volunteer under the direct supervision of a Redlands Police officer, stood outside five local businesses that sell alcohol and offered to give people entering the stores money to buy beer.

A 22-year-old man and a 60-year-old man, both from Redlands, were cited at separate locations for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

The enforcement efforts are part of a $18,600 grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Sept. 15, 2015 - Redlands Police cited 13 drivers during two crosswalk enforcement details this month.

Police officers conducted crosswalk and bicycle enforcement details on Friday, Sept. 4, and Wednesday, Sept. 9, at intersections on Redlands Boulevard between Orange Street and Citrus Avenue; on Olive Avenue between Eureka and Cajon streets; and on Cajon Street between Citrus and Olive avenues. Eight drivers were cited on Sept. 4 for failure to yield to a pedestrian within a crosswalk. Five drivers were cited on Sept. 9. No violations by cyclists were observed during the details.

Sept. 9, 2015 - Investigators on Tuesday arrested a 65-year-old Huntington Beach man suspected of molestation of a Redlands teen in Redlands and Orange County over the past two years. Detectives believe there may be additional victims.

Richard George Moran was arrested without incident at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at his home in Huntington Beach.

Detectives began investigating Moran after receiving reports in June of child molestation that had occurred in Redlands and Orange County over the past two years. The victim, a 13-year-old Redlands boy, told police that Moran had touched him inappropriately while they were alone together in the boy’s Redlands home and in the suspect’s vehicle in Orange County.

The Redlands Police Department’s Narcotics K-9 Unit has set a goal to raise $20,000 in donations to support the program at a fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 12, at Gerrard’s Market at the corner of Cypress Avenue and Center Street.

Beginning at noon the public is invited to attend the fundraising event with music, craft breweries, a silent auction, pet adoptions, child fingerprinting, face painting, a live band, Star Wars characters and Kona Ice. Gerrard’s will be serving ribs and turkey legs.

Highlights will also include K-9 demonstrations from various law enforcement agencies, Redlands Fire Department vehicles, and the RPD ballistic capable rescue/tactical vehicle and other police vehicles.

Aug. 26, 2015 - One person was cited during a Shoulder Tap operation Monday, Aug. 24, in which an 18-year-old volunteer under the direct supervision of a Redlands Police officer, stood outside five local businesses that sell alcohol and offered to give people entering the stores money to buy beer.

A 39-year-old San Bernardino man was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor and for two misdemeanor warrants. He was found to be in violation of his probation and arrested.

The enforcement efforts are part of a $18,600 grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Aug. 26, 2015 - Redlands Police, working closely with Fontana Police detectives, on Tuesday arrested two men believed responsible for as many as 13 armed robberies in the Inland Empire since July 30, including three in Redlands.

Police arrested 28-year-old Michael Lamont Scott Jr., of Banning, and 29-year-old Ryan Neal Williams, of San Bernardino. Police believe Scott is the man who held up a Starbucks, at 637 Orange St. on Aug. 1; Toys R Us, 9930 Alabama St., on Aug. 17; and Papa John’s Pizza, 770 Tennessee St., on Aug. 24, along with at least 10 other robberies in Fontana, San Bernardino, Calimesa, Rancho Cucamonga, Rialto and Ontario. Williams is believed to have been the getaway driver in each of the hold-ups.

Aug. 25, 2015 - The Redlands Police Department will conduct a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint in an undisclosed location within the City limits from 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, until 2 a.m. Friday morning.

The checkpoint is planned as part of a national crackdown on drunk driving. The 18-day, high-visibility campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, is in partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety to curb impaired driving and save lives.  From Aug. 21 through Sept. 7 (Labor Day), law enforcement partners in San Bernardino County, across the state and nationwide will show zero tolerance for drunken driving. Increased state and national messaging about the dangers of driving drunk, coupled with checkpoints and increased officers on the road, aim to drastically reduce the toll of drunken driving.

Redlands Police cited 10 drivers during a crosswalk enforcement detail Thursday.

Four police officers conducted the crosswalk detail Thursday, Aug. 20, at three intersections – Cajon and Vine streets; Redlands Boulevard between State and Fifth streets; and Olive Avenue between Cajon and Grant streets. Drivers were cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian within a crosswalk. Two bicycle riders were also cited for traffic violations.

Aug. 24, 2015 - A 36-year-old Escondido man, driving a stolen car, was arrested following a 10-minute pursuit after the man attempted to run down one police officer and intentionally rammed another patrol car late Sunday night.

A Redlands Police officer, working a targeted DUI saturation patrol, initiated a traffic stop on the black 2008 Honda Civic shortly before midnight Sunday, Aug. 23, after witnessing the driver run a stop sign in the area of Clay Street and Colton Avenue. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver gunned the engine and drove away at a high rate of speed.
