City of Redlands and the Community Rating System

What is the Community Rating System and how does it affect me?  As a “CRS Community,” Redlands has committed to a variety of mitigation measures that will progressively lower flood insurance premiums for those residents whose properties are located within the floodplain and require the added level of insurance protection provided through the National Flood Insurance Plan.  For more information about the Community Rating System and what we must do to gradually increase our rating, please access http://www.fema.gov/business/nfip/crs.shtm

Would you like to know more about your community’s requirements for developing in the floodplain?  This information may be found at our online City Code system.  You can also see how the City of Redlands works hard for you through the National Flood Insurance Program.  Our One Stop Permit Center maintains complete information regarding Redlands’ Elevation Flood Certificates.  For further information on the requirements to obtain elevation certificates, and copies of elevation certificates, please contact City of Redlands Building and Safety Department at (909) 798-7536.

How does the City of Redlands strive to maintain its drainage system?  Storm drains and irrigation channels are maintained by city crews on an annual basis each summer, well before Redlands ’ documented rainy season begins.  In late 2007 the City of Redlands purchased new equipment that will give us increased capability to keep our channels open.

    • Established in 1988, Redlands Market Night has established itself as one of the most successful certified farmers markets in Southern California! Vendors vie to participate in the event that has attracted thousands of weekly visitors since its inception. Visitors are welcomed into an inviting atmosphere complete with lighted trees, brick sidewalks, historic buildings, and great musical entertainment. Crowds are pleasantly surrounded by over 150 food and merchandise booths, not to mention the downtown shopkeepers, every Thursday night.

      The Saturday Morning Certified Farmers’ Market began June 6, 2009, bringing local growers to the City parking lot south of Redlands Boulevard between Fifth and Sixth streets near Ed Hales Park. The market operates from 8 to 11 a.m. every Saturday, excluding holiday weekends.

    • Redlands Police Chief Mark A. Garcia and Fire Chief Jeff L. Frazier will hold a joint town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, in the Redlands City Council Chambers. The meeting will be televised live to cable television customers on Redlands TV.

      Frazier and Garcia will answer questions regarding public safety issues.

      In addition to answering questions from the audience, the Police and Fire Chiefs will also take questions by email and live via the Redlands Police Department’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/RedlandsPoliceDepartment and the Redlands Fire Department’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/RedlandsFireDepartment. Questions will be answered live online as time permits.

      The Town Hall meeting is part of the City of Redlands’ efforts to promote citizen involvement, in keeping with the City’s commitment to transparency in every aspect of City government. By televising the meeting and taking questions via email and Facebook the departments hope to accommodate residents and address concerns of those who have other commitments or obligations but wish to have specific questions answered.

      The town hall will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, in the City Council Chambers at 35 Cajon St. All are welcome and there is no cost to attend. Spanish translation will be available both at the meeting and online.

      Questions may be emailed in advance or during the meeting to Lt. Travis Martinez at tmartinez@redlandspolice.org, to Chief Frazier at jfrazier@confire.org or through either department’s Facebook page.
