Celebration to commemorate renaming of city facilities
A community celebration commemorating the renaming of three city facilities will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 111 W. Lugonia Ave.
On May 21, 2024, the Redlands City Council approved renaming the Redlands Community Center, Senior Center and dining room at 111 W. Lugonia Ave. to honor four individuals who made significant contributions to the community.
- The Joe R. Gonzales Community Center (formerly the Redlands Community Center): Joe R. Gonzales was deeply involved in community activism, particularly focused on improving facilities and opportunities for the youth of the north side of Redlands. He was instrumental in building the Community Center.
- Ediberto and Gloria Flores Senior Center (formerly the Redlands Community Senior Center): Eddie and Gloria Flores have dedicated their lives to community service and fostering positive change through educational and cultural initiatives.
- Mary Reyes Sanchez Dining Room: Mary Reyes Sanchez dedicated more than 25 years to enhancing senior living and community engagement in Redlands. She volunteered daily for the lunch program at the Community Center, organized special events and was involved in advisory boards.
The festivities will feature comments by city officials and family members, information on programs available at both centers and light refreshments. Reservations are not required.
