Volunteers needed for Point-In-Time-Count homeless survey

Article

On Thursday, Jan. 23, the County of San Bernardino and the City of Redlands will conduct the annual Point-In-Time-Count (PITC) of unsheltered homeless individuals.

In the City of Redlands, City employees and volunteers from the public, community groups, homeless service providers, law enforcement, educational institutions, faith-based organizations, local businesses, neighborhood associations, non-profit agencies and others will canvass the City to count, survey and assist the homeless population, in conjunction with the countywide PITC effort.

The PITC and survey are critical to secure government and private grant funding and other resources for the City to assist individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The PITC will be conducted using Arc GIS Survey123, a web-based application designed specifically for the San Bernardino County PITC. Volunteers will need an Android smartphone, iPhone or iPad to conduct the survey. The device should be no older than three to four years old and have at least 100MB of available space

For iPhones and iPads, the operating system must be iOS 13 or later, iPad must have cellular capabilities (not just Wi-Fi) and ability to capture Global Positioning System (GPS) information.

For Android phones, the operating system must be Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later.

Volunteers will receive virtual training prior to the survey. For information or to register, visit https://sbchp.sbcounty.gov/community-projects/point-in-time-count/
