Celebration to Commemorate Renaming of City of Redlands Facilities

A community celebration to commemorate the renaming of three City of Redlands facilities will be held from 6 pm-7 pm Tuesday, September 10. A motion was passed at a City Council meeting earlier this year to rename the Lugonia Avenue centers in honor of individuals who made significant contributions to the Redlands community.

The Joe Gonzales Community Center

(formerly the Redlands Community Center)—Mr. Gonzales was deeply involved in community activism, particularly focused on improving facilities and opportunities for the youth of the North side of Redlands. He was instrumental in building the Community Center.

Ediberto and Gloria Flores Senior Center

(formerly the Redlands Community Senior Center)—Mr. and Mrs. Flores dedicated their lives to community service and fostering positive change through educational and cultural initiatives.

Mary Reyes Sanchez Dining Room

Mrs. Sanchez dedicated over 25 years to enhancing senior living and community engagement in Redlands. She volunteered daily for the lunch program, organized special events, and was involved in advisory boards.

The festivities will feature comments by city officials and family members, information on programs available at both centers, and light refreshments. Reservations are not required.

The City of Redlands is extremely proud to rename these facilities in recognition of the many contributions made to the Redlands community by Joe Gonzales, Eddie and Gloria Flores, and Mary Reyes Sanchez. Their legacy will live on for generations to come and be an inspiration for all.

The community and senior center is located at 111 West Lugonia Avenue. More information is available by calling 909-798-7572 or 909-798-7579.
