Background & Context
As you may be aware, the California State Legislature has revised
statewide Government Code 51178 directing CalFire and the Office
of the State Fire Marshal to identify areas with potential of
wildfire events. These identifications are based on consistent
statewide criteria including fuel loading, slope, historical fire
weather, and wind patterns. The maps of the areas identified by
CalFire and the Office of the State Fire Marshal are slated for
release in January 2025.
While the City of Redlands does not have any influence or
consultation over the criteria utilized for these areas
identified by state law, this flyer provides resources for our
community to navigate this process as well as an overview of our
ongoing wildfire safety programs.
